Provides clinical and nursing professional development expertise as an educator, leader, consultant, facilitator, change agent, and researcher to support the organization in the provision of quality patient care by helping to ensure the clinical competence of nursing staff and foster the delivery of evidence-based nursing practice. Collaborates with the leadership team and staff regarding patient care and staff orientation, participates in setting standards and maintains knowledge and skills in the areas to which assigned. As a role model of professional behavior, the NPD Practitioner is instrumental in creating a professional nursing climate within the organization to meet the needs of diverse patient care areas.





  • Provide leadership to promote excellence in nursing practice and facilitate change initiatives
  • Works with leaders, staff and key stakeholders as a positive change agent to initiate and support progress toward and the achievement of organizational strategic goals
  • Collaborates with nursing leadership and staff to assess the learning needs and competencies of staff
  • Develops, implements and evaluates education plans/programs and utilizes methods, measurements, and tools to evaluate achievement of learning goals
  • Serves as a resource for staff in areas of program development, clinical practice, and professional development
  • Plans and provides for orientation onboarding activities to include classroom and skills/simulation lab learning
  • Facilitates the onboarding of employees to ensure integration to the role on both unit and system-wide levels, focusing on retention and growth
  • Assists in the development, coordination, and evaluation of competency programs and identifying deficiencies in staff competency
  • Integrates research and evidence based practice into the development of educational activities
  • Participates in activities to promote the specialty of Nursing Professional Development
  • Assists others in professional role development and role transitions
  • Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients, and visitors.
  • Performs other related duties as required.


Education:Graduate of an approved school of nursing.

Masters of Science in Nursing or Masters in Education is required.



3-5 years of current acute care hospital experience is required

Experience in curriculum development and principles of teaching are necessary



Licensed and currently registered in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

Current AHA BLS and ACLS Certification , and will require instructor certification within 3 months

May require PALS or CPI  to be obtained, based on areas of responsibility
