    Responsibilities

    Operate engines, boilers and auxilary equipment

     

    Read gauges, meters and charts to track boiler operations

     

    Monitor boiler water, chemical and fuel levels

     

    Activate valves to change the amount of water, air and fuel in boilers

     

    Inspect equipment to ensure that it is operating efficiently

     

    Check safety devices routinely

     

    Record data and keep logs of operation, maintenance and safety activity

     

    Construction and facilities maintenance courses a plus with shop math, able to read and understand blueprints, shop drawings and electrical schematics

     

    Ability to assemble, disassemble, repair machinery, systems, controls from drawings, sketches, verbal or written instructions.

     

    Works on a continuous basis in routine repairs and service as well as emergency situations. Ensures proper tools, materials and spare parts are available to complete the job.

     

    Understands job assignments. Able to diagnose problems quickly. Ability to repair or service unfamiliar equipment and/or systems and controls. Ability to use test equipment that is trade-related in diagnosing problems.

    Qualifications

    Education:

    • High school diploma or GED required -  vocational/technical graduate preferred.
    • Mechanic A requires a journeyman’s certification (or similar proficiency in any 2 or more of the 6 hospital related skill fields – carpentry, plumbing, welding, HVAC/refrigeration, power plant, and electrical). Ability to work independently in a designated skill field is a prerequisite.
    • Provide daily preventative and corrective maintenance in assigned areas in accordance with standard procedures of the Facilities Services Department and in accordance with the Hospital's objectives.  Boiler Operator l

    Experience:

    • Construction and facilities maintenance courses a plus with shop math, able to read and understand blueprints, shop drawings and electrical schematics.
    • Knowledge of heating systems, boiler and other related power equipment, boiler chemistry and water testing procedures, and boiler codes and safety standards.
