POSITION SUMMARY: The Collections Specialist performs a variety of tasks within the collections department. Contacts patients by phone and or mail regarding their account and is responsible for ensuring collection of past due balances. Relies on experience and good judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures with in the collections department. Responsible for all patient, secondary and third-party billing which includes preparing insurance claims according to the UB-04 guidelines set forth for the state and for collections follow-ups on unpaid accounts. Must have general understanding of payor contracts and the ability to interpret EOBs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Answers patient account questions and assists in setting up alternative pay plans when necessary. 2. Maintains patient account records and may settle third party payer issues. 3. Responsible for pre-collections- sending appropriate letters to the patients, contacting patients by phone when necessary. 4. Handle patient complaints. 5. Process patient discharges and issues the alert notification 6. Responsible for collection agency referrals such as BCC and Tele-Collect 7. Handle account resolution 8. Performs other related duties deemed necessary by the Billing Supervisor.
This position will be working at the Spring Ridge Surgicenter location.
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED (Required); CPR Certification (Required)
EXPERIENCE: Patient accounting and account management in a health care facility; Medicare, Medicaid, Champus, Blue Cross, Managed Care, Workers Comp and Commercial Insurances knowledge; Experience/knowledge of third-party laws & regulations. Excellent Communications, Interpersonal Skills, & General Clerical Skills required.
